Maybe its a bad thought to make a film about World Conflict I that has a longer running time than the struggle itself.
REVIEW:
There’s a large number of things going for this film, too unhealthy none of them made it onto the screen. A story about World Battle I flying aces shotting it out over France? A chance to see the outdated planes in action? A possible throwback to an older model battle film? This movie gives some exiciting possibilities. It delivers on none of them.
This film is a distracted mess. There could have been an attractive story involving the pilots coping with the grim actuality that they were all in all probability going to die while also residing the fleeting lives to the fullest. The movie moves a decidely completely different course and concentrates on a limp love story between a French woman who can’t communicate English and an American that can’t act.
The warmth between lead James Franco and his love curiosity Jennifer Decker is timid. I’ve seen more exiting chemistry once I’ve added half and half to my coffee in the morning.
The other portion of the movie, the part involving pilots and flying doesn’t fare a lot better. The fight sequences are chaotic and poorly presented. It’s nearly impossible to tell who is who because everyone is (of course) coated in headgear and flying identical planes. It is like trying to do a police lineup with everyone wearing soccer helmets. Beyond this, there isn’t a transparent and active nemesis. The dearth of a gift villain joined with the a dearth of deep supporting characters, reduces the battle sequences into obtuse, buzzing interludes that bookend the awkward love interest scenes.
This could have been an incredible film, but it’s not even a marginal one. It’s probably somebody you know will take a look at the DVD box and suppose it looks good. The advertising does look good. Then again, the advertising of this movie is the one successful a part of the entire effort.
Don’t hassle with this one people, it’ll only waste your time and let you down.
